Welcome to this website about our long hair German Shepherds! This is a work in progress as we create our pages to go into more detail about our dogs as well as our breeding program. While we usually focus on long hair German Shepherds, some of our dogs are traditional short coats but can produce long hair German Shepherd puppies. Please bear with us while we make this website the best it can be!
Long hair German Shepherds are purebred German Shepherds that happen to have longer hair than what most people may be used to seeing. Long hair German Shepherd puppies can happen a litter of two traditional short hair dogs. This is due to a recessive gene that both parents need to carry, and when the pup has two recessive genes, a long hair German Shepherd puppy is produced!
Currently, not all kennel clubs allow long hair German Shepherds to be shown. The German registry known as the SV has recently permitted long hair German Shepherds to be shown in their own class, but only competing against other long hair German Shepherds. Again, they are purebred German Shepherds, and many consider them to be even more beautiful than their short hair counterparts!
